WHO WE ARE

About Our Community

Since the early 19th century, Singapore has served as a dynamic hub for Jewish life in Asia. From the beginning, Jews have played a meaningful role in the nation’s growth and development, helping to shape its civic, cultural, and commercial landscape.

Our community is rooted in the values of Ahavat Yisrael (love for fellow Jews) and a strong tradition of hospitality. Over time, this foundation has grown into a vibrant and inclusive Jewish ecosystem—one that brings together Jews from all walks of life. What sets us apart is our distinctly Singaporean approach to respect for tradition and a lived commitment to pluralism, shaped by the multicultural society we are proud to be part of.

Maghain Aboth Synagogue was established in 1878 by Iraqi Jews adhering to the Sephardi Orthodox tradition, whose minhagim (customs) have been maintained with singular devotion. Since its inception, the synagogue has included both Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jews and has remained the heart of our community. As the community has expanded, so too has the richness of cultural programming and activities across all facilities and educational centers. We offer something for everyone and welcome all Jews to take part in the vibrant experiences we cherish.
